Fourth of July Adventure

Fourth of July Adventure
Author: Kathleen Whitham

Sometimes the best way to understand history… is to live it, even just for a page or two.

What begins as a classic Fourth of July celebration quickly transforms into a journey through time in Kathleen Whitham’s Fourth of July Adventure—a cheerful, imaginative, and powerfully educational children’s book that turns American history into an unforgettable adventure.

Young readers follow Olivia, Graham, and Amelia as they unexpectedly stumble upon a mysterious time machine nestled in the woods behind their house. With childlike curiosity and fearless excitement, the trio travels through pivotal moments in U.S. history—witnessing the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, absorbing Lincoln’s stirring words at Gettysburg in 1863, and feeling the heartbeat of the civil rights movement in 1963 as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. declares his dream.

Each stop along the way is more than a lesson—it’s an experience. History comes to life in ways that are colorful, emotional, and incredibly human. And when the children return to the present, they carry with them more than stories—they carry meaning, pride, and questions worth discussing.

A joyful, educational, and imaginative journey through American history—perfectly wrapped in red, white, and blue. —Hollywood Book Review

Blending historical context with delightful illustrations, playful dialogue, and even a brownie recipe, Whitham’s story offers a perfect balance of celebration and reflection. It’s ideal for read-aloud moments, classroom discussion, or quiet bedtime learning.

For any parent or teacher seeking to introduce foundational American values to young readers in a meaningful and enjoyable way, Fourth of July Adventure is more than a holiday book—it’s a spark of inspiration.

Kathleen Whitham’s Fourth of July Adventure earns the Gold Seal—A charming, patriotic story that inspires pride in the past, and hope for the future.

The Curse of the Fairy Tree

Book Covers kids around a tree

The Curse of the Fairy Tree

When thirteen-year-old Emma and her best friends Lily and Ava find a centuries old treasure map while cleaning out Lily's grandmother's attic, they have no idea they're about to be pulled into a magical adventure beyond their wildest dreams. After receiving enchanted seashell hair clips from an enigmatic shopkeeper named Agnes, the girls are visited in their dreams by Iris, a fairy who begs for their help to save her dying kingdom.
But not everything is as it seems. As the three friends embark on a quest to gather three magical items—a powerful wand, a truth-revealing mirror, and a mystical tiara—they begin to suspect they're being manipulated for a darker purpose. With their hometown slowly falling under a sinister spell and time running out, Emma, Lily, and Ava must uncover long-buried secrets, face their deepest fears, and learn who they can really trust before Shoreline Bay is lost forever.
In this enchanting middle-grade fantasy, friendship and courage are put to the ultimate test as three ordinary girls discover that sometimes the most powerful magic lies not in spells or enchantments, but in the strength of standing together.

From the Author:

My name is Alora Johnson, and I’m a 13-year-old author and actress based in Atlanta. Creativity has always been my way of expressing myself, especially as I worked through trauma. I was adopted at six, after spending years in the foster care system—a journey that shaped me and gave me a unique perspective. I’ve also been diagnosed with PTSD, something I’m open about because I believe there’s no shame in having experienced trauma. In fact, those experiences inspired me to write. The idea for my book came from a dream, and I’ve spent the last two years bringing it to life with help from my mom and older sister. Each of the three main characters holds a piece of me; in some way, they each represent a part of my journey and my hopes for the future. People often call me an “old soul,” and I think that’s because I connect deeply with stories and characters, especially those with complex paths. My biggest hope is to show other foster kids that their past doesn’t define them. They have the power to dream big, to be seen, and to know they’re important.

The Curse of the Fairy Tree is a story of friendship, bravery, and big dreams. Emma and her two best friends, Lily and Ava, discover an ancient map in Emma’s grandma’s attic, leading them to hidden secrets in their small beach town, Shoreline Bay. From magical hair clips and pirate legends to a mysterious fairy who appears in Emma’s dreams, they’re pulled into an adventure filled with clues, danger, and an old curse. As they work to break the curse, they learn that friendship and believing in each other’s strengths can overcome any obstacle. It’s a journey that shows kids, especially those who’ve faced hard times, that magic is real when you stick together and dream big
